At the same time, digitalization is transforming the way people request transportation, and services like Uber or Cabify have entered the scene (although in a limited way for now in Euskadi). In this blog post we will analyze <strong data-start=\"785\" data-end=\"857\">what the future holds for cabs at Bilbao Airport in 2025<\/strong>. In 2023 and 2024 <em data-start=\"2548\" data-end=\"2563\">record figures<\/em> were reached in visitor arrivals and tourist spending. For example, in Bilbao city alone between June and September 2023, <strong data-start=\"2692\" data-end=\"2712\">454,828 tourists<\/strong> were registered, 3.6% more than the same period in 2022 (which had already been the best historical figure) according to <span class=\"\" data-state=\"closed\"><span class=\"ms-1 inline-flex max-w-full items-center relative top-[-0.094rem] animate-[show_150ms_ease-in]\"><a class=\"flex h-4.5 overflow-hidden rounded-xl px-2 text-[0.5625em] font-medium text-token-text-secondary! bg-[#F4F4F4]! dark:bg-[#303030]! transition-colors duration-150 ease-in-out\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoturismo.net\/BilbaoTurismo\/fr\/comunicados-de-prensa?anio=2023#:~:text=Nouvelles%20,de%20la%20serie%20hist%C3%B3rica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"relative start-0 bottom-0 flex h-full w-full items-center\"><span class=\"flex h-4 w-full items-center justify-between overflow-hidden\"><span class=\"max-w-full grow truncate overflow-hidden text-center\">bilbaoturismo.net<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span>. This trend continued in 2024, consolidating Bilbao as a benchmark urban destination. From January to November 2024, the city recorded <strong data-start=\"2982\" data-end=\"3043\">1,151,075 inbound travelers and 2,289,706 overnight stays<\/strong>, slightly exceeding the 2023 figures. This indicates that tourism demand has not only recovered, but <em data-start=\"3196\" data-end=\"3232\">already exceeds pre-pandemic levels<\/em>.     <\/p><p data-start=\"3236\" data-end=\"4206\">An important change in the post-COVID stage is the increased presence of international tourism. Currently, approximately <strong data-start=\"3357\" data-end=\"3409\">52% of visitors to Bilbao are foreigners<\/strong> (compared to 48% nationals), with visitors from <strong data-start=\"3500\" data-end=\"3559\">France, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy <\/strong>standing out according to <span class=\"ms-1 inline-flex max-w-full items-center relative top-[-0.094rem] animate-[show_150ms_ease-in]\"><a class=\"flex h-4.5 overflow-hidden rounded-xl px-2 text-[0.5625em] font-medium text-token-text-secondary! bg-[#F4F4F4]! dark:bg-[#303030]! transition-colors duration-150 ease-in-out\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bilbaoekintza.eus\/tema\/turismo#:~:text=Asimismo%2C%20la%20proporci%C3%B3n%20de%20las,de%20visitantes%20de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"relative start-0 bottom-0 flex h-full w-full items-center\"><span class=\"flex h-4 w-full items-center justify-between overflow-hidden\"><span class=\"max-w-full grow truncate overflow-hidden text-center\">bilbaoekintza.eus<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>What does this mean for the cab sector? That we are carrying more and more passengers from other countries in our vehicles, with specific needs (language, payment methods, tourist information) but with a huge business potential if we know how to serve them well. In addition, the institutions are betting on <strong data-start=\"3924\" data-end=\"3949\">quality<\/strong> tourism <strong data-start=\"3924\" data-end=\"3949\">all year round<\/strong>, not only during the high season. Bilbao, for example, is promoting itself as a venue for major <strong data-start=\"4042\" data-end=\"4077\">cultural and sporting events<\/strong> in order to spread visits over the 12 months.    <\/p><p data-start=\"4208\" data-end=\"5056\">Among the highlights of <strong data-start=\"4244\" data-end=\"4252\">2025<\/strong> in Bilbao are the <strong data-start=\"4271\" data-end=\"4305\">UEFA Europa League Final<\/strong> (May 21 at San Mam\u00e9s) &#8211; the first time an event of this caliber is held in the Basque Country &#8211; as well as a stage of <strong data-start=\"4461\" data-end=\"4479\">La Vuelta 2025<\/strong> in September, international music festivals (BBK Live, Jazzon, BIME, etc.) and <strong data-start=\"4612\" data-end=\"4620\">MICE<\/strong> congresses (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions). Each of these events will attract thousands of additional visitors. <\/p><p data-start=\"4208\" data-end=\"5056\">For us, as cab drivers, that translates into more transfers to\/from the airport, hotels, event venues and sightseeing tours around the city. In short, the post-pandemic tourist wave in Euskadi works in our favor: <strong data-start=\"4971\" data-end=\"5030\">more tourists, more trips and greater diversity of clients<\/strong> throughout the year.   <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-09ebfdc e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"09ebfdc\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85ebb70 elementor-widget elementor-widget-the7-heading\" data-id=\"85ebb70\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"the7-heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"the7-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2. Record passenger traffic at Bilbao Airport<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-29fb654 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"29fb654\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"5123\" data-end=\"5822\">Linked to the tourism boom is the <strong data-start=\"5156\" data-end=\"5196\">growth of Bilbao Airport<\/strong>, our main place of business. After the drop in traffic in 2020-2021, <code data-start=\"5273\" data-end=\"5284\">La Paloma<\/code> has once again taken off strongly. <strong data-start=\"5321\" data-end=\"5359\">2024 closed with 6,777,267 passengers<\/strong>, which is an <strong data-start=\"5378\" data-end=\"5398\">all-time record<\/strong> and a 7% growth compared to 2023 according to <span class=\"\" data-state=\"closed\"><span class=\"ms-1 inline-flex max-w-full items-center relative top-[-0.094rem] animate-[show_150ms_ease-in]\"><a class=\"flex h-4.5 overflow-hidden rounded-xl px-2 text-[0.5625em] font-medium text-token-text-secondary! bg-[#F4F4F4]! dark:bg-[#303030]! transition-colors duration-150 ease-in-out\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aena.es\/es\/prensa\/el-aeropuerto-de-bilbao-cierra-2024-con-mas-de-67-millones-de-pasajeros---y-52.538-vuelos.html&amp;p=1575078740846#:~:text=El%20a%C3%B1o%20pasado%20hubo%202,la%20del%20conjunto%20de%202023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"relative start-0 bottom-0 flex h-full w-full items-center\"><span class=\"flex h-4 w-full items-center justify-between overflow-hidden\"><span class=\"max-w-full grow truncate overflow-hidden text-center\">aena.es<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span>. It&#8217;s official: Bilbao Airport is the airport with the most passengers in all of northern Spain and already ranks among the 12 largest in the country. To put it in perspective, those almost 6.8 million passengers in 2024 even exceed the numbers of 2019 (pre-pandemic).   <\/p><div><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">Not only has the quantity increased, but the type of trips has also changed. AENA&#8217;s data indicate that in 2024 the number of trips grew by   <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"6251\" data-end=\"6274\">all segments<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">domestic passengers +3.4% (total ~3.91 million) and international passengers +12.3% (total ~3.91 million). <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"6328\" data-end=\"6354\">international +12.3% (close to 2.85 million) and international passengers +12.3% (close to 2.85 million).<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\"> (approaching 2.85 million)<\/span><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">. In other words, the greatest growth comes from international routes, a sign that Bilbao is becoming more and more connected to the world. In fact, new routes are being opened up: in   <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"6587\" data-end=\"6649\">2025 Bilbao will launch its first direct flight to New York (Newark)<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\"> (Newark) with United Airlines, operating three times a week during the summer season.<\/span><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">. This transoceanic connection was long awaited and positions our city in another league, facilitating the arrival of North American tourists. In addition, direct flights to key European destinations have been recovered or inaugurated: in April 2025 the route to   <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7039\" data-end=\"7049\">Berlin<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">which was lost during the pandemic<\/span><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">operated by Eurowings; recently direct flights have also been added to <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7199\" data-end=\"7213\">Copenhagen<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">, <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7215\" data-end=\"7228\">Stockholm<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">, <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7230\" data-end=\"7241\">Basel<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">, <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7243\" data-end=\"7254\">Palermo<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\"> o <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7257\" data-end=\"7265\">Cork<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">consolidating Bilbao as a northern hub<\/span><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">.<\/span><br><br><\/div><div><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">All this points to an increase in <\/span><strong style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7409\" data-end=\"7446\">airport traffic growth in the coming years &#8211; AENA is already<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\"> AENA is already planning investments to increase capacity between now and 2030, and therefore<\/span><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">&#8211; and therefore <\/span><em style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\" data-start=\"7609\" data-end=\"7673\">more potential travelers seeking transport Bilbao airport<\/em><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\">.<\/span><br><span style=\"background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); word-spacing: normal;\"><br><\/span><\/div><p data-start=\"7677\" data-end=\"8507\">For airport cab drivers, this context is very promising. More flights and more passengers mean more runs. Let&#8217;s think that every new international flight that arrives are dozens (or hundreds) of people who need a transfer to the city or to other locations in Bizkaia. And here the <strong data-start=\"7965\" data-end=\"7996\">official airport cab<\/strong> has a clear competitive advantage: we are <strong data-start=\"8042\" data-end=\"8053\">on site<\/strong> at the terminal exit, available immediately, without long waits.
